Sole Plus’ “SOLEcial Activism” and Art|Sole|Life Tour leaves its footprint on Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (December 9, 2011)-- Atlanta based nonprofit Sole Plus, hosted over 350 people at McColl Center for Visual Arts, Friday December 9th, 2011. A wide variety of the community came out to support the event and learn more about Sole Plus’s initiatives and partnership with Freedom School Partners. w4

Sole Plus, Inc, conducted its weeklong, “SOLEcial Activism” workshop at Seigle Point Afterschool Center, in collaboration with Freedom School Partners, from December 7-9th, 2011.

This weeklong art workshop introduced 100 afterschool students to the importance of using art as an emotional outlet. The students, with assistance from 30 Charlotte artists, created and designed their own custom made sneakers donated by Converse, often referred to as “Chucks”.

Sole Plus, in collaboration with McColl Center for Visual Arts, celebrated the successful workshop by hosting over 350 community patrons at its Art|Sole|Life exhibition on Friday, December 9, 2011. The event, showcased the works of the local artists who volunteered with SOLEcial Activism. Brian Miller (Founder and Executive Director of Sole Plus) presented Mary Nell McPherson (Executive Director of Freedom School Partners, Inc.) with a custom made pair of Freedom School Partners Chuck Taylors.
